Nashville, Tenn., Nov. 7, 2012 – Burr & Forman LLP is pleased to announce the addition of Nashville-based attorneys: partner Brendi E. Kaplan, and associates Thallen J. Brassel and Nina M. Kumar. These attorneys join on the heels of Burr & Forman’s recent combination with Tampa, Fla. law firm Williams Schifino Mangione & Steady P.A., and give the firm a total of 29 Tennessee-licensed attorneys. Brendi E. Kaplan joins Burr & Forman’s Banking & Real Estate and Health Care practice groups. She was previously a partner with Wyatt Tarrant & Combs LLP in Nashville. Kaplan represents a broad range of business clients in all aspects of commercial transactions, real estate, finance, acquisitions, dispositions and general corporate matters. She also represents clients in the area of public finance, serving as bond counsel, underwriters’ counsel, trustee’s counsel, and counsel to governmental entities. Her experience in the health care sector includes the representation of hospitals, physician practices and other providers in corporate, regulatory and compliance matters.

Kaplan earned her undergraduate degree from Bradley University, and her law degree from The John Marshall Law School in Chicago. She is a member of the Nashville and Tennessee Bar Associations, the National Association of Bond Lawyers, the American Health Lawyers Association and the Lawyers Association for Women. She is also an active member of the International Council of Shopping Centers and the Middle Tennessee Chapter of Commercial Investment Real Estate Institute.

Nina M. Kumar also joins Burr & Forman from Wyatt Tarrant & Combs LLP. She will practice as an associate in the firm’s Banking & Real Estate and Health Care practice groups.

Kumar earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Saint Andrews in Scotland, and her law degree from Vanderbilt University School of Law. She is a member of the Tennessee Bar Association and Leadership Middle Tennessee’s Class of 2013. She is also active in the American Health Lawyers Association.

Thallen J. Brassel joins Burr & Forman’s Tax Law practice. She was previously an associate with Milbank, Tweed, Hadley and McCloy LLP in New York. Her practice focuses on tax transactions, including advising major financial institutions, project developers, underwriters, airlines, aircraft leasing companies and other parties in tax-advantaged asset financing transactions. In addition, she advises clients on tax-related portions of bankruptcy filings.

Brassel earned her undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University and her law degree from Duke University School of Law.
