Read is licensed to practice in Georgia. He is a member of the American Bar Association, the State Bar of Georgia, the Atlanta Bar Association, Lawyers Club of Atlanta, Atlanta Estate Planning Council and the Old Warhorse Lawyers Club.  He earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Georgia School of Law in 1973 where he was on the Editorial Board of the Georgia Law Review, and his B.A. from the University of Georgia in 1964.

Read was voted by his peers as a Georgia “Super Lawyer” in the area of mergers and acquisitions.  He serves on the boards of directors of a number of privately held companies and community organizations.
