About David
David practices in the firm’s Construction Law practice group. Before attending law school, David worked in the construction industry for several years. His most recent position was as a project manager, where he oversaw the construction of several bridge projects. He has also worked as an engineer on various heavy construction projects, including the Central Artery Tunnel (the “Big Dig”) in Boston, as well as the Central Expressway Project in Dallas. David’s construction experience includes estimating, scheduling, interpreting plans and specifications, design, subcontract management, change orders, claims, safety and cost engineering. He is also a licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) in the State of Virginia.
He is a member of the American Bar Association and its Forum on the Construction Industry, the Alabama State Bar, and the Birmingham Bar Association. David is also a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Associated General
Contractors. He is admitted to practice in the State courts of Alabama, as well as the U.S. District Court for the Northern and Middle Districts of Alabama. David represents various general contractors, owners, subcontractors, and designers.
David has lectured on the “Anatomy of a Construction Defect Case” (Lorman Education Services), “Resolving Problems and Disputes on Construction Project in Alabama” (National Business Institute) and has given talks on other related issues to several organizations. David has also published articles on the “Procedure for Perfecting a Mechanic’s Lien Claim in Alabama” (The Alabama Roadbuilder , Winter 2005) and an “Insurer’s Duty to Defend Design-Builder for Damages Due to Alleged Construction and Design Defects” (Design Build Institute of America, Newsletter January 2005). In addition, he was recognized as a “Rising Star” by Alabama Super Lawyers in 2011 and 2012.
David received his B.S. with honors in Civil Engineering Technology from the Rochester Institute of Technology (R.I.T.). While at R.I.T., he was a member of the American Society of Civil Engineers (A.S.C.E.) and was an officer in the Tau Alpha Pi National Honor Society. David also participated in the cooperative education program and was awarded the C.S.I. Scholarship. In addition, he received the American Society of Civil Engineer’s Outstanding Senior Award. During college, he supplemented his education with practical experience by working as an Engineering Assistant for both a tunneling
and a site development contractor.
In 2004, David received his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Alabama where he was inducted into the Order of the Coif. During law school, he was a Senior Editor of the Journal of the Legal Profession and received the Best Paper Award for Trademarks and Unfair Competition. He was also awarded the Claude Harris Endowed
Scholarship, the Lanny S. Vines Endowed Scholarship and the Williams G. West Jr. Scholarship.
