About James
James is a member of the firm’s Commercial Litigation, Creditors’ Rights & Bankruptcy and Financial Services Litigation practice groups. He concentrates on resolving business, creditors’ rights, insurance and financial services disputes. James is admitted to practice before all courts in Tennessee, including the United States District Courts for the Eastern, Middle and Western Districts of Tennessee and is admitted to the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the American Bar Association, Tennessee Bar Association, and Nashville Bar Association.
James is a cum laude graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Law. While in law school, James was a member of, and the Office Manager for, the Mississippi Law Journal, served as a member of the Moot Court Board, and was elected President of the Law School Student Body. James received his undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where he was President of the Order of the Old Well. Following graduation from UNC, James was selected for the highly competitive Teach for America program and taught second grade in rural Mississippi.
In the community: James has served in the Army National Guard since January 2002 and received a commission as an Army officer in 2003. He is a graduate of the Armor Officer Basic Course, the Military Intelligence Officer Transition Course and the Infantry Captains Career Course. James was called to active duty in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom from 2004 to 2006, where he was awarded the Combat Action Badge. James continues to serve as a Captain in the Tennessee Army National Guard. He is currently assigned to the Tennessee National Guard Joint Force Headquarters in Nashville.
In addition, James is active with various charitable organizations in Nashville. He is a board member of Operation Stand Down Nashville, a veterans service organization, and is a founding member of The Young Jacksonian Society, the young professional organization dedicated to preservation of The Hermitage, home of President Andrew Jackson.
James is married to fellow bar member, Claire Cowart Haltom. He enjoys running, golfing and watching college sports in his spare time.
