About Ryan
Ryan practices in the firm’s litigation section with an emphasis on labor and employment law. His experience includes defending employers in litigation involving all aspects of the employment relationship, including claims brought under Title VII, 42 U.S.C. § 1981, ADEA, FMLA, ADA, FLSA, EPA, and various state laws, in both federal and state courts as well as in arbitration. He has handled and assisted with investigations and audits conducted by government agencies, including the EEOC, NLRB, OSHA, and OFCCP, on behalf of employers. In addition, Ryan provides counseling to employers involving issues arising under various state and federal employment laws. He also assists clients with preparing executive employment agreements, including non-compete agreements, and drafting employee handbooks.
Ryan is a Fellow in the Litigation Counsel of America, an honorary society composed of less than one-half percent of American lawyers. He was also recognized as a “Rising Star” by Alabama Super Lawyers in 2011.
Ryan received his J.D. in 2000 from Southern Methodist University School of Law, where he was an Articles Editor for the Southern Methodist University International Law Review. He received his B.A. from Washington and Lee University in 1996, where he was a member and captain of the varsity tennis team.

What community projects are you involved in?
I am actively involved in the Birmingham Kiwanis Club, the Public Affairs Research Council of Alabama, and Brookwood Baptist Church.
What was your first job?
My first job was teaching tennis at a local tennis club. Not a bad first job.
What are your hobbies?
In addition to spending time with my wife and daughter, I enjoy tennis, running, horseback riding, and martial arts.
How do you define a “good day”?
A good day is when I help a client solve a problem to their satisfaction.
