About Clifton

Clifton practices with the firm’s Creditors’ Rights & Bankruptcy practice group. His practice and experience concentrates mainly on complex commercial bankruptcy matters and commercial loan restructurings; including the representation of corporate debtors of various sizes, financial institutions, unsecured creditors committees, and parties involved in out of court restructurings. In addition to commercial loan restructurings, recent engagements include the representation of two Chapter 11 debtors of national interest, Bruno’s Supermarkets, LLC, and Bill Heard Enterprises, Inc.; the representation of the official committee of unsecured creditors of Dixie Pellets, LLC; the out of court restructuring of a multi-million dollar Alabama saw mill facility; and an appeal to United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit on behalf of the State of Alabama. Clifton also has experience is a wide range of sub-topics within the general areas of Real Estate Law.

Clifton serves on the Executive Committee of the Alabama State Bar - Young Lawyers Division where, among other things, he helps coordinate the YLD’s annual Seminar conference. Clifton also serves on the Junior Board of the Freshwater Land Trust, a non-profit organization whose mission is the acquisition and stewardship of lands that enhance water quality and preserve open space. He has most recently been asked to give a presentation on Alabama Foreclosure and Redemption Rights to one of the firm’s large financial institution clients in Atlanta, GA., as well as return to his law school alma mater to speak to law students on the challenges and rewards of practicing commercial bankruptcy law.

Clifton earned his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law, where he served as the Secretary for the Tuscaloosa chapter of the Defense Lawyers Association. Clifton received his B.A., cum laude, in Political Science from the University of Mississippi in Oxford, Mississippi. While in Oxford, Clifton was included on the list of Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities and was chosen to represent the University in two national leadership colleges.

Clifton is a member of the Alabama State Bar and all U.S. District Courts in Alabama, including the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals. Additionally, he is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association where he is licensed to practice in all state and federal courts in Mississippi, including the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Birmingham Bar Association, and the Mobile Bar Association.
