About Chuck

Chuck practices with the firm’s Commercial Finance & Banking, Commercial Litigation, and Real Estate sections.

Following graduation from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1980 and a clerkship with the Honorable J. Edward Tease in Lauderdale County in 1980-81, he returned to Mobile where his early practice involved maritime matters in addition to banking and general business. His practice developed primarily in the areas of secured lending transactions, banking defense litigation, and depository advice for local and regional banks, in addition to real estate. Currently, Chuck continues to focus primarily in these areas, in addition to handling other matters of a business nature, including business litigation. He serves as outside counsel for commercial matters for one of the largest private employers in Mobile.

Chuck is admitted to practice before the state and federal courts in Alabama, as well as the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit. He is also a member of the local and state bar associations and the American Bar Association, including the Business Law Section.

Chuck Cross-Examined

What is your favorite thing about the law?

Problem solving

What community projects are you involved in?

Fort Conde Kiwanis Club (past president)

What was your first job?

Garbage man at Dauphin Island (summer 1970)

What are your hobbies?

Kayaking, biking, hiking, and jogging

What advice would you give to a young law student?

Find at least one lawyer who has successfully practiced 10-20 years, and genuinely earn his or her friendship and respect. This is not the time to let shyness hold you back. Be neither too intimidated nor too proud to ask plenty of questions about the practice of law. Find out what this friend would have done differently in law school and beyond, and why. That does not necessarily mean that you should do the same, but the perspective gained will be valuable.

How do you define a “good day?”

A day concluded with a sense of accomplishment, which may be as to family, self and/or business.

How do you spend your weekend?

Some work and some play, outside if possible.
