About Gerald
Gerald is a partner in the firm’s Litigation section. He has been practicing with Burr & Forman since 1991, and his practice has focused on commercial litigation disputes, as well as class action defense and insurance coverage litigation. Gerald has represented clients from national insurance companies and a publicly held Internet service provider, to regional banks and manufacturers, to local companies such as automobile dealerships, suppliers, distributors and investment companies. Gerald’s wide range of experience has included defending several class actions; the defense and prosecution of financial institution claims; the defense of a non-profit foundation in a multi-million dollar suit to dissolve the organization; shareholder and partnership disputes; estate litigation; construction litigation; and the defense of insurance companies in several coverage actions. He has worked as well on a host of other business tort disputes, both locally and nationally.
Gerald is a member of the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association, the Defense Research Institute, the American Bar Association, the Alabama State Bar and the Birmingham Bar Association. He has been inducted as a member of Outstanding Lawyers of America. He is admitted to practice in all State and Federal courts in Alabama, and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
Gerald received his B.A., magna cum laude, in 1988 from Hampden-Sydney College, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa. He earned his J.D. in 1991 from the University of Alabama School of Law. During law school, Gerald was a Junior Editor and a Senior Editor of the Alabama Law Review, and a member of the John A. Campbell Moot Court Board and the Jessup International Moot Court Team. He was also inducted into the Order of Barristers. He was admitted to the Alabama Bar in 1991.
Gerald in the community
I enjoy spending time with my wife and three children, and coaching youth soccer. I am President of the Alabama alumni chapter for Hampden-Sydney College and a junior patron of the Birmingham Museum of Art. We are members of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
