About Fred

Fred practices in the firm’s Labor & Employment Law group. He represents employers in all aspects of their relationship with their employees and their collective bargaining representatives. Since 1965, Fred has defended employers in discrimination cases filed by employees under the various federal and state anti-discrimination statutes, as well as in proceedings under the FLSA and OSHA. He also represents employers in their dealings with their collective bargaining representatives, including representation and unfair labor practice proceedings before the National Labor Relations Board, collective bargaining and arbitration. Additionally, Fred provides preventative advice to employers in all of these areas and assists employers in developing employee handbooks and personnel policies.

Listed in The Best Lawyers in America in the Labor & Employment Law category, Fred is a Fellow of the College of Labor & Employment Lawyers and a Fellow of the Alabama Law Foundation, Inc. He was selected by the Birmingham Bar Journal as “Best of the Bar” in the area of Labor & Employment law among the larger law firms. He has lectured in the field of Labor & Employment Law in seminars sponsored by the National Business Institute; the Continuing Legal Education Program of the Alabama State Bar; the Labor Law Section of the Alabama State Bar; the Multi-State Labor & Employment Law Seminar; the Cumberland Institute for Continuing Legal Education; and the Council on Education in Management.

Fred is a member and past Chairman of the Labor Law Section of the Alabama State Bar; a member of the American Bar Association and its Labor & Employment Law Section; a member of the Employment Law Section of the Defense Research Institute; and a member of the American Employment Law Council. He is a past President of the Birmingham Bar Association and a former member of its Executive Committee.
