About Janine

Janine practices in the firm’s Creditors’ Rights and Bankruptcy practice group with a focus on commercial bankruptcy, creditors’ rights, financial services litigation and banking litigation.

Janine is licensed to practice before all state, federal and bankruptcy courts in the State of Alabama, as well as before the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. Janine is an active member of the American Bar Association, National Bar Association, Birmingham Bar Association, Magic City Bar Association and Alabama Lawyers Association. She is also Chair-Elect of the Birmingham Bar Association’s Women Lawyers Section.

Janine currently serves as Chair of the Board of Directors of Girls Incorporated of Central Alabama, a board on which she has been a member since 2001. Janine is most proud of my work on this Board because the programs sponsored at Girls Incorporated encourage and promote girls to be “strong, smart and bold.” Janine believes that she serves as an example to those girls of a woman who is likewise strong, smart and bold. She is also a member of the Junior Board of Directors for the YWCA of Central Alabama.

In 2007, Janine was selected as a member of the inaugural class of the Tort Trial and Insurance Practice Section’s esteemed Leadership Academy. In 2004, Janine was recognized by the Birmingham Business Journal as one of Birmingham’s “Top 40 Under 40” business leaders. In addition, Janine is a member of the Birmingham Multiple Sclerosis Leadership Class of 2009 which honors senior level professionals for their outstanding contributions to the business, civic and cultural betterment of the city. The 2009 class raised over $100,000 for MS programs, services and research.

Janine has lectured most recently on “Bankruptcy Law and Procedure: Start to Finish” (National Business Institute, September 2007). She has also been a presenter for the following CLE presentations during meetings of the Young Lawyers Section of the ABA: “Life After JD: Now What Do I Do?” (February 2005); “Moral Ethics in the Face of Enron” (February, 2003) and “Secrets to Success Under Revised Article 9” (October 2001).

Janine received her B.A. in English from the University of Alabama and her J.D. from the University of Alabama Law School. While in law school, she was the Senior Editor for the Law & Psychology Review, member of the John A. Campbell Moot Court Board and the Bankruptcy Moot Court Team. She also served as Secretary to the Bench and Bar Legal Honor society.

What are your hobbies? My hobby, which is actually turning into a second career, is interior decorating. It started off as something I did for myself and my parents; now I actually have friends and colleagues who call on me for advice when purchasing furniture or decorating their new homes.
