About Martin
Martin serves as Managing Partner to Burr & Forman’s Atlanta Office. Martin’s areas of practice include Corporate Law, Intellectual Property & Technology, Mergers & Acquisitions, Healthcare and Telecommunications & Media. His business advisory experience ranges from growth companies to middle market and Fortune 500 companies in digital commerce, information technology, software, electronics, media, communications, healthcare and life sciences. Martin is licensed to practice in both Georgia (1993) and Alabama (1978).
Martin’s community leadership extends into the education, civic and business arenas. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors and former Vice Chairman (1997) to the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce; a member of the Board of Directors for Forward Atlanta (1997-2000); and, a member of the Board of Directors for the Society of International Business Fellows (1986-2006).
Martin is the founding Chair, Board Member and former secretary of the Southeast BIO Investor Forum (SEBIO), and he also sits on the Host Committee for BIO 2009 International Annual Meeting in Atlanta. He is a member of the Executive Board for the Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) and Chairman of the Board Development Committee. He is an active member of the Atlanta Venture Forum. Martin was the Founding Underwriter, Secretary and member of the Board of Directors for the Georgia CIO Leadership Association (GCLA).
Martin serves on the Board of Advisors for the Emory Goizueta Business School (2000-present), and formerly for the Emory Rollins School of Public Health (1999-2001) and the Georgia Tech College of Computing (2000-2002). He is a member of the Board of Advisors of the Emory Winship Cancer Center. He is former General Counsel and member of the Board of Directors to the Atlanta International School (1993-1998), and as a member of the Board of Trustees to the University of the South (1977-1986). Martin has served for ten years on the Major Gifts Committee for the Woodruff Arts Center, and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Center for Puppetry Arts (2000-2003). Martin is also a member of the Board of Directors of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce and the United Way de Tocqueville Cabinet (2007-2008).
Martin has been recognized by the Atlanta community for his many accomplishments. Georgia Trend Magazine named him one of the “Most Notable Atlantans” in (2005), and “100 Most Influential Georgians” (2001-2003). He was named “Who’s Who in Healthcare” (2005), “Who’s Who in Law and Accounting” (2004,2005) and “Who’s Who in Atlanta Technology” (1998-2003), all by the Atlanta Business Chronicle. Martin was also recognized as one of the “50 Most Influential People in Southern Technology” by Digital South (1998-1999).
Martin received his J.D. from the University of Alabama School of Law in 1977, where he was Chairman of the John A. Campbell Moot Court Board, was a member of Bench and Bar Legal Honor Society, the Order of Barristers and was awarded the Dean’s Award for service to the law school. Martin received his B.A. from the University of the South (Sewanee) in 1974.
What is your favorite thing about the law?
Advising and serving as counsel to management teams on business applications of law.

Grass Cutting and Baskin Robbins server.
What are your hobbies?
Golf, Wing Shooting, Sporting Clays.
What advice would you give to a young student in law school?
Take Accounting and Business organization courses in undergraduate school or audit them during law school.
How do you define a “good day?”
Waking up Blessed.
How do you spend your weekend?
Family and friends and catch up work (outdoors as much as possible with golf or wing shooting); During the summer, I like to go to our cabin at Lake Martin.
