About Matthew

Matt practices in the firm’s Business section with an emphasis on corporate law. In this capacity, he is involved with transactions, mergers, acquisitions, contract drafting and review, corporate governance, entity formation and business planning. His other practice areas include real estate and condominium law, nonprofit law, corporate compliance and consumer lending contract compliance. He is licensed to practice law in Alabama and Illinois, and is a member of the Alabama State Bar, the Illinois State Bar Association, the American Bar Association and the Birmingham Bar Association.

Matt received his J.D., cum laude, from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University in 2006 where he served as Managing Editor of the Cumberland Law Review and a Caruthers Teaching Fellow, and was inducted into Curia Honoris. He received his B.B.A. in Economics from Baylor University in 2002 where he served as Student Body President.

What is your favorite thing about the law? Understanding and learning how the law works so that I can be of service to those in need.

What community projects are you involved in? Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Birmingham, Dawson Memorial Baptist Church.

What was your first job? Busboy.

What are your hobbies? Golf, baseball, and tennis.

What advice would you give to a young student in law school? Study hard while building as many friendships with other students and professors as possible.

How do you define a “good day?” A day spent with family at a St. Louis Cardinals baseball game.

How do you spend your weekend? Golf, time with friends, travel, church.
