Burr Duo Accepted to NAWL's Leadership Program

Burr proudly announces that Birmingham partners Beth Shirley and Meryl Cowan have been accepted into the NAWL's 2023 Leadership Program. The 7-week intensive cohort includes presentations, small group discussions, and community-building exercises intended to help participants strengthen their leadership skills and build their professional networks.

Beth serves as co-chair of the firm's Cybersecurity and Data Privacy industry team. Her practice is devoted to helping clients comply with the evolving privacy regulations in the U.S. and abroad, preparing privacy notices and policies, and operating privacy programs. Her practice also includes the full scope of handling data incidents and breaches, including advising on negotiating ransom demands from threat actors, retaining vendors to investigate and remediate systems, reporting activity to appropriate authorities, and sending any required notifications to consumers. 

Meryl is a member of the firm's Labor & Employment group and focuses her practice exclusively on representing employers nationwide in all aspects of labor and employment law, including litigation before federal state courts and administrative agencies. In addition to defending her clients in adversarial proceedings, Meryl regularly counsels employers in developing new human resources policies and confronting the challenges of the ever-changing workplace. Meryl has dedicated her practice to helping clients deliver and ensure the highest level of quality to their employees and consumers while meeting and exceeding their business goals. Meryl is a proud supporter of women in law and is a member of the firm’s Women’s Initiative and Recruiting Committee.
