Burr & Forman Partner Jack P. Stephenson, Jr. Elected to Council of Alabama Law Institute

This prestigious elected position is awarded to just six practicing lawyers from each of the seven congressional districts in the state of Alabama.

The Alabama Law Institute works closely with the Legislative Reference Service in the annual proper placement and codification acts passed by the Legislature within the Code of Alabama. The Legislative Reference Service prepares the vast majority of bills for each session for the Legislature, while major code revision work, such as revision of an entire section of law, is handled by the Alabama Law Institute.

“Jack is a tremendous talent and has a keen insight into legislative issues in Alabama,” said W. Lee Thuston, managing partner of Burr & Forman LLP. “We are confident that his leadership skills and incomparable experience will help him excel in this new role to the benefit of all citizens in our great state.”

About the Alabama Law Institute

Created by act of the Legislature in 1967, the Alabama Law Institute was funded and commenced operations in 1969. The purpose of the Institute is to clarify and simplify the laws of Alabama, to revise laws that are out-of-date and to fill in gaps in the law where there exists legal confusion. Its diverse membership includes members of the Alabama State Bar Association, the judges of the Alabama Supreme Court, courts of appeals, and circuit courts, federal judges domiciled in Alabama, full-time law faculty members of law schools and lawyer members of the Legislature.
