Scully joins the Labor and Employment Practice Group. He was previously with The Kullman Firm.
Scully represents employers in lawsuits involving claims under Title VII and in administrative proceedings before a number of agencies, including the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC). He also counsels employers on a number of matters, including employment policies and procedures, administrative hearings before state and federal agencies, non-compete agreements, severance agreements and reductions in force. He handles claims arising under the National Labor Relations Act, and he defends various tort and contract claims.
“Employers today are faced with an increasingly complex myriad of issues that we advise on from a legal perspective,” said Marcel Debruge, chair of Burr & Forman’s Labor and Employment Practice Group. “Matthew’s addition boosts our group’s bandwidth to respond to growing demand from clients for strategic employment counsel.”
Scully is a frequent lecturer on topics of interest to human resources professionals, including recent Title VII developments and social media policies.
He earned his undergraduate degree from the Presbyterian College and his law and M.B.A. degrees from the University of Alabama.
