Charleston County Bar Remembers Former Burr Forman McNair Partner Lucas Padgett, Jr.
The Charleston County Bar Association recently remembered those in the Charleston County legal profession at its annual meeting on February 27th. Those remembered included former Burr Forman McNair partner Lucas Padgett, Jr.
Lucas grew up in Walterboro, South Carolina where he attended Walterboro High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Wofford College in 1968. After enlisting in the Army, he was stationed in Heidelberg, Germany as a lieutenant from 1968 to 1971. He obtained his law degree from the University of South Carolina in 1973 and practiced corporate law for 46 years in Charleston, South Carolina. He was named one of the top 50 lawyers in America practicing energy law for 26 years.
At Burr Forman McNair, Padgett had a long history of representing water and wastewater utilities for municipal county and public service districts. He also spent a part of his practice representing clients on election law matters.
Lucas argued cases in the Courts of South Carolina, including the Courts of Appeals and S.C. Supreme Court. In his later years, he worked extensively with clients on large tract real estate developments to obtain zoning and development agreements with local governments.
The Charleston Bar also put together a video tribute to Lucas and his contributions to the legal community. The tribute is narrated by Judge P. Michael Duffy.
