Burr & Forman Adds Kathryn Whitaker as New Chief Marketing Officer

Firm News

CHARLESTON, SC, February 1, 2021 – Burr & Forman LLP announces the addition of Kathryn Whitaker to serve as the firm’s Chief Marketing Officer. Whitaker rejoins the firm where she previously served as Director of Client Relations immediately upon the former attorneys and staff of McNair Law Firm joining Burr & Forman in 2019. Whitaker served as Director of Marketing and Business Development at McNair. Since leaving Burr & Forman, Whitaker was a candidate in the 2020 general election for the South Carolina Senate, as well as the Director of Recruitment and Strategy Consulting with Calibrate Legal, a recruiting and consulting firm for the legal industry.

“We are thrilled Kathryn has returned to our firm and look forward to her leadership as we adopt a more focused market approach and continue to grow in tandem with our clients’ needs,” said Ed Christian, Chief Executive Officer of Burr & Forman. “Kathryn’s experience will be instrumental in advancing our marketing and business development function as we evolve and grow with our clients in order to enhance our client experience and service and promote our brand.”

In this role, Whitaker works closely with firm management and practice group leaders to develop and implement business development plans while overseeing efforts to collaborate across the firm’s 19-office footprint, industry sectors, and practice areas. She also manages branding and marketing strategies, including communications, media and public relations.

“I am grateful and excited for the opportunity to return to Burr & Forman to support the firm’s strategic growth plans,” Whitaker said. “I was a fan of Burr & Forman, its culture, and its people even before I was an employee and am pleased to be in this role and to make an impact on the business of law as our services and our clients’ needs across the country continue to expand.”

Whitaker’s previous positions include leading the marketing function for regional law firms based in North Carolina and South Carolina. Her earlier law firm experience includes overseeing the business development efforts for the Southeast region of a global law firm. While with Calibrate Legal, Whitaker worked with law firms to achieve superior business results through the strategic use of people, processes, and technology.

Whitaker is an active volunteer with professional and community organizations. She is a past member of the international Legal Marketing Association Board of Directors and previously served as President of the organization’s Southeast Region. She is currently an appointed member of the Mount Pleasant Culture, Arts & Pride Commission; on the Steering Committee of Women United for Trident United Way; a Dream Team member with Seacoast Church; and a youth basketball coach.

Whitaker earned a bachelor’s degree in communication studies from Clemson University.
