Marcel Debruge Discusses Starbucks Union Vote in The Wall Street Journal

Marcel Debruge was quoted in a December 10, 2021 article discussing the recent vote by workers at a Starbucks store in Buffalo, NY to unionize. While the vote only affects one store, it is cause for speculation as to whether the successful unionization will energize others around the country.

“Is organizing a handful of folks in Buffalo going to do much to advance the labor movement? I don’t believe it is,” Debruge said. He added that the group of workers in question is too small, and that fluid bargaining units where employees come and go don’t tend to lend themselves to collective bargaining.
