  • Defended against allegations of violations of state liquor liability laws, i.e. Alabama dram shop and social host liability.

  • Lead trial counsel for municipality in lawsuit alleging city owned garbage truck caused vehicle to run off road and cause injury.

  • Defended banking institution from breach of account and fiduciary loss claims.

  • Prosecuted wrongful trespass and quiet title actions for individuals and small businesses.

  • Defended against breach of express and implied warranties causing commercial losses.

  • Litigated on behalf of airplane engine maintenance contractor defending against claims of "aero toxic syndrome" caused by failures in airplane bleed air systems.

  • Co-trial (and appellate) counsel representing road contractors in cases involving negligence in constructing, designing, or monitoring state and federal highway projects.

  • Sought injunctive relief and later obtained appellate decision in favor of insurance brokerage with regard to the enforceability of arbitration agreements.

  • Represented clients in real estate disputes regarding specific performance of sales contracts as well as adjoining landowners arguing over easements and rights of way.

  • Represented airplane maintenance facility from toxic injury claims.

  • Defended numerous claims from an anhydrous ammonia release.

  • Worked with trust departments, banks and other commercial lending institutions with claims involving misuse of funds, wrongful foreclosures and slander of title claims.

John, a member of the American Board of Trial Advocates, is an experienced trial lawyer, having represented businesses and their insurers in cases involving personal injury, wrongful death, and commercial losses arising out of motor vehicle accidents, engineering and construction defects, work site accidents, product defects, dram shop & social host liability, negligent security, environmental and public nuisance, and general premises liability.

Having handled cases through jury trial and appeal, John is also asked to advise businesses on their risk management and insurance needs. In serving the profession, John is an active member of the American Bar Association (ABA), Tort Trial & Insurance Practice (TIPS) division, where he has been a vice-chair for various general committees, to include Self-Insurers and Risk Managers, Business Litigation, Litigation and Trial Practice, Toxic and Environmental Torts, and Products Liability. He currently serves as an editor for The Brief magazine and Tort Trial & Insurance Practice Journal, both publications of ABA-TIPS. John is also a proud member of the Defense Research Institute (DRI) and past young-lawyer President for the Alabama Defense Lawyers Association (ADLA).

John lives in Mobile, is married (Margaret Sue), and has two daughters (Margaret & Katherine). Their family is active in their church and contribute their time to area non-profits. Additionally, John also serves as the Mobile office’s student hiring partner.
