  • Sherri has represented numerous clients before the Internal Revenue Service in tax controversy matters; Sherri works with clients in the estate and wealth management areas, planning for estate succession, preserving estate assets and reducing estate taxes. She worked as an auditor with the Internal Revenue Service in the Estate and Gift Tax Division in Greensboro, NC and as a tax supervisor for a public accounting firm prior to entering private law practice. She has represented clients in estate controversies including oral arguments before the North Carolina Supreme Court.

Sherri McGirt, a native of Charlotte, NC, counsels clients in estate and wealth management planning, estate and fiduciary tax planning and estate and trust administration with a focus on planning for estate succession, protecting estate assets, reducing estate taxes and preserving family harmony. She is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA).

She works with closely held entities in areas including business planning and succession management.

She has experience in numerous estate and trust administration matters – examples of which include fiduciary tax planning, will contests and family settlement agreements, valuation issues, charitable planning, and extended trusts – and represents beneficiaries, personal representatives and trustees. Having prior experience with the IRS as an estate and gift tax attorney and at Touche Ross & Co. (now Deloitte) as a tax supervisor, Sherri represents clients before the Internal Revenue Service.
