Burr & Forman was a sponsor at the recent Distributed Health conference held in Nashville, Tennessee, with members of the firm's Blockchain, Cryptocurrency and E-Transactions team participating as speakers and attendees. The conference featured presentations and panel discussions from innovators and thought leaders, ranging from payers and providers to pharmaceutical manufacturers and policymakers. This fostered a collaborative forum for stakeholders in the healthcare and blockchain space.
Matt Kroplin, a partner in Burr's Nashville office, spoke on a panel about the intersection of blockchain and healthcare regulation. Matt discussed potential regulatory concerns on the federal and state level regarding blockchain implementation in healthcare since, currently, technological development is outpacing applicable regulations. He noted that distributed ledger technology lends itself well to delivering healthcare solutions, and provided insights on navigating the regulatory environment while utilizing such innovations.
Over the course of two days, various programs highlighted the opportunities to employ distributed ledger technology as a part of new solutions for the evolving healthcare industry, including for payments, revenue cycle management, provider credentialing, patient identification and matching, medical records, and supply chain. Speakers also discussed blockchain use cases and current innovative implementation efforts in both clinical and commercial healthcare settings, along with showcasing healthcare business models and governance structures.
