Burr & Forman Appoints India Vincent to Newly Created Chief Privacy Officer Position

Birmingham, Ala., May 24, 2018 - Burr & Forman LLP announces that Birmingham-based partner India Vincent has been named as the firm's first chief privacy officer (CPO). In this new role, India oversees Burr & Forman's cybersecurity programs on behalf of clients as well as the firm's internal data security practices. India is a partner and leads the firm's Intellectual Property and Cybersecurity practice groups. Her appointment follows the March 2018 appointment of Eddie Saunier as chief security officer (CSO).

"As our firm's responsibility to protect our clients' data increases, and while technology and regulatory requirements evolve, it is important that we be proactive by establishing the chief privacy officer position," said Burr & Forman's chief executive officer Ed Christian. "With India's leadership and deep knowledge of privacy law, she will play an essential role in the firm's continuing commitment to data protection, compliance and risk management."

As CPO, India will shape the future of the firm's implementation of data security practices throughout the organization and ensure compliance with applicable privacy laws. Her responsibilities include determining best practices for storing data, and analyzing data collection and storage methods across the firm. She will also oversee internal data privacy education programs and collaborate with the CSO to mitigate risk.

In addition to her practice group leadership, India is an active member of Burr & Forman's Corporate and Tax group as well as the newly created Blockchain, Cryptocurrency and Electronic Transactions focus team. She counsels clients on cybersecurity, data privacy, General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), technology, corporate transactions, blockchain and intellectual property matters. She works with clients to identify valuable data and other proprietary information to develop customized, situationally appropriate security and data protection policies, as well as breach response plans.

India is a member of the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP), the International Trademark Association (INTA), serving on the Data Protection committee, the American Intellectual Property Law Association (AIPLA) and the American Bar Association's Section of Intellectual Property Law and Section of Science and Technology Law Section. She also serves as co-chair of the Alabama State Bar's Cybersecurity Task Force.

India earned her undergraduate degree from Clemson University in computer engineering, her master of integrated manufacturing systems engineering from North Carolina State University and her law degree from Cumberland School of Law at Samford University.
