In an article published in Bloomberg Environment on April 8, Ron Farley and Schuyler Espy discuss the drop in EPA enforcement actions and inspections.

While this is in line with the administration’s emphasis on deregulation, it still raises questions about if this drop will have a significant impact on the enforcement of environmental regulations nationwide.

"According to the EPA, its recent approach to enforcement is appropriately recognizing the critical role of states in implementing and enforcing the federal environmental laws," state Farley and Espy.

The agency also embraces "cooperative federalism," which encourages federal-state partnerships in the enforcement of regulatory programs. This concept allows state environmental agencies primary jurisdiction for implementation and enforcement and puts EPA in position to simply supervise.
