Burr & Forman announces the addition of Michael Smith as an associate to the firm’s Orlando office, where he will join the firm’s Financial Services Litigation group. His practice will focus on defending and advising banks, commercial and consumer lenders, credit card issuers, mortgage originators, mortgage servicers, finance companies, and debt collection companies on a number of legal issues.

“We are pleased to welcome Michael to the Orlando office and to the Financial Services practice group, as we see a growing need for in this practice area not only in Orlando, but across the state” said Eric Golden, Burr & Forman’s Orlando managing partner. “Michael brings significant knowledge and experience in consumer finance litigation which will help strengthen not only the Financial Services practice group but the Orlando office as a whole.”

Smith’s background includes work at an AmLaw 100 firm where he litigated heavily contested trials and argued numerous appeals related to consumer finance litigation, in both state and federal court.  Smith is admitted in Florida, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals and the Middle District of Florida.

He received his undergraduate degree from Florida State University and his law degree from the University of South Carolina School of Law.
