Burr Forman McNair Bolsters Health Care Practice with Addition of Counsel in Greenville

Firm News

Burr Forman McNair announces the addition of Rachel Gilbert as counsel in the firm’s Greenville office in its health care practice group. Gilbert represents hospitals in matters related to regulatory compliance, transactions, financial strategies, and advocacy, with a focus on hospitals’ participation in federal and state reimbursement programs.

“Rachel brings great experience providing counsel to hospitals on the complex regulatory and financial challenges facing their business, which is more important now than ever,” said Bernie Ellis, Burr Forman McNair’s Greenville office managing partner. “We are excited for the chance to add another client- and results-oriented attorney to the firm’s expanding South Carolina footprint.”

In her practice, Gilbert has experience assisting in the development, implementation and operation of new Medicaid reimbursement programs in several states. She also has significant experience advising public, investor-owned, non-profit, children’s and rural hospitals on regulatory compliance issues related to participation in Medicaid and Medicare reimbursement programs. Her compliance and reimbursement advice has also extended to several complex transactions, including mergers, acquisitions and joint ventures.

Gilbert is also well-versed in preparing advocacy materials for clients, developing talking points for C-suite executives, drafting proposed laws and regulations, performing complex financial modeling to determine the impact of proposed or adopted reimbursement rules, and facilitating coalitions of industry stakeholders to seek improved access to reimbursement.

She received her undergraduate degree from North Carolina State University and her law degree from The University of Texas School of Law. She also earned an LLM in International Law from The University of Edinburgh School of Law in the United Kingdom, where she was awarded for highest marks in Medical Jurisprudence.
