Burr Partner Howard Marks Featured in Orlando Business Journal “Litigation Giants” Article

Firm News

In an article published on July 25 in the Orlando Business Journal, Howard Marks is profiled among five of Central Florida's longest-practicing, successful litigators.

Orlando has an abundance of experienced litigation lawyers and the Journal spoke with five such individuals, who boast decades of experience and success in the field. Their insight offers a look into common mistakes businesses make as well as lessons they’ve learned along the way. Participants were chosen from some of the region’s largest law firms and selected based on the total number of years practicing, as well as the Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings and client ratings.

Marks details his favorite thing about litigation, “I have a passion for representing my clients and trying to get them some justice through the system.”

The biggest lesson he has learned during his time as a litigator is the importance of communication – you have to learn how to communicate properly with your clients. He puts a large emphasis on making sure your client fully understands where you're going, what you're doing and what they do or don't want to do.

As for his advice for young lawyers, Marks shares, “Be prepared, listen, find a mentor, and be able to understand your clients and their motivations. Understand the other side's motivations and try to adapt the facts of the circumstances of your case to a winning strategy.”
