In an article published on Dec. 8, 2015, Rhett Owens discusses a proposed rule change from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) regarding variable annuities that's set to be announced in the first quarter of 2016. The idea, ostensibly, is to implement "full disclosure of what commissions are being charged and how much in fees the advisor is getting," said Owens. "This could be a good thing. VAs are investment vehicles and should be treated as such. [But] I do think it's going to create a price war."
