Ed Brown Discusses U.S. Ban on Canadian Alcohol with Beverage Industry

Media Mention

Ed Brown was featured in Beverage Industry magazine to discuss the import ban on certain Canadian alcoholic beverages, which took effect on Sept. 29, 2026, following Canada's removal of U.S. wine and spirits from store shelves in March 2025.

According to Ed, who chairs Burr’s Food and Beverage practice sector, the ban could have short-term effects on market performance, and American brewers may shift their priorities. While packaged alcohol, such as bottles, cans, and kegs, is subject to the ban, bulk shipments of product intended for packaging in the United States are not. There may be benefits to focusing more on securing wine and spirits rather than beer, given their longer shelf life.

In addition, Ed expects changes in consumer habits to benefit domestic products, particularly beer, and says American brewers can capitalize on shifting market preferences.

Ed notes that while workarounds exist, tariffs remain in effect on all alcohol products.
