Speaker, The Birmingham Beer, Betting & Sports - Live Class

Speaking Engagement
Birmingham

Burr & Forman Birmingham-based Partner, Melinda E. Sellers, spoke at the Beer, Betting & Sports - Live Class. This CLE seminar was held on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 from 2:00-6:30 p.m. at Good People Brewing Company in Birmingham, AL. Melinda spoke on the topic of "Strange Brew: Starting Up, Maintaining and (Legally) Building Craft Breweries."

"The craft beer industry has exploded in the US over the last decade and with that has come a host of changes to statutes and regulations, in addition to some instructive cases. For instance, it's illegal to brew your own beer and distribute it yourself in many states… so that tasty stout you've been working on in your basement technically needs to be sold by someone outside of your immediate family. It gets messier from there.

Eric Schultenover, an attorney and co-founder of the wildly popular Good People Brewing Co., will be joined by Melinda Sellers, whose practice includes representing breweries and distributors, to discuss the regulatory framework and share lessons learned from their experiences with startup breweries. Participants will learn to recognize hot topics and issues associated with alcohol manufacturing and distribution."

Additional topics, presented by other legal and industry professionals include, "Avoiding Penalty Flags -- Ethical Considerations for Attorneys/Sports Agents" and "Gambling on Sports in America." The presentations will be followed by a meet and greet with Clay Travis, Fox Sports analyst. He invites attendees to "join us as we talk (and drink) beer, betting and sports - and get 3.0 hours of CLE credit in the process! We're offering this special series twice in December, just in time for the end-of-year CLE requirements."
