Burr & Forman Sponsors Major "Tri The Gulf" Triathlon in Mobile County
October 2nd, 2017 - Burr & Forman announces it will sponsor the second annual "Tri The Gulf" sprint triathlon on Dauphin Island, AL on Saturday, October 21, 2017. The triathlon is organized and hosted by the Mobile Bar Foundation, which is the charitable arm of the Mobile Bar Association. The triathlon is sanctioned by the USA Triathlon Association. The Mobile Sports Authority is also a financial sponsor of the triathlon.
All of the net proceeds from the triathlon will support various charitable and civic endeavors in the Mobile-Southwest Alabama area. In 2016, the Foundation provided financial support to the South Alabama Volunteer Lawyer Program, the Mobile County Volunteer Guardian Program, the Child Advocacy Center, the Big Brothers-Little Brothers/Big Sisters-Little Sisters Program and the Boys & Girls Clubs in Mobile. These programs directly affect the lives of thousands of persons (persons who need legal assistance and cannot afford such, incapacitated adults, children and youth at risk) in the 5 counties of Southwest Alabama. In addition to the good work the Foundation's financial grants support, the triathlon also promotes tourism for Dauphin Island at a time when there aren't a lot of tourists on the Island AND it promotes good health and a healthy lifestyle. The triathlon is the ONLY triathlon hosted in Mobile County.
The 2016 inaugural triathlon was a tremendous success with 330 registrants and 292 actual participants. There were approximately 250 additional volunteers and spectators on site for the 2016 event held last October. In 2016 there were participants from across the State of Alabama and 8 other states and 3 foreign countries. We are planning for 500 participants in 2017.
