Burr's George Morrison Featured in Charlotte Agenda discussing Opportunity Zones

Firm News

In an article published in Charlotte Agenda on January 14, George Morrison discusses opportunity zones in Charlotte, and the potential for them to make the rich richer instead of helping the poor, which is what they are intended for.

You will likely start to see a lot more hedge funds pour money into opportunity zones - but it will be hard to track. "There are no specific reporting requirements for opportunity zone investments," said George Morrison, who works with these funds.

Opportunity zones can be seen as both good and bad for Charlotte. "The benefits would come from a classic trickle-down model," Morrison continued. "Opportunity funds would invest in real estate development or businesses in these zones, which would then have a positive impact on the zones."

What we know for now is that as more money comes in for opportunity zones, we can expect to see the City Council get more involved.
