Burr & Forman is proud to announce that Birmingham Partner Derek Meek has been selected to serve a three-year term on the Board of Regents for the American College of Bankruptcy. 

The American College of Bankruptcy is an international organization with approximately 900 Fellows worldwide, and it is dedicated to recognizing excellence in the field of bankruptcy and restructuring law. Its Board of Regents is responsible for nominating and selecting qualified candidates for Fellowship and holds the sole authority to elect Fellows. The Board includes one Regent from each of the eleven federal judicial circuits and three at-large Regents. As Regent for the 11th Circuit, which covers Alabama, Georgia, and Florida, Derek will also serve as Chair of the 11^th Circuit Admissions Council for the College.

Derek serves as chair of the firm’s Creditors’ Rights & Bankruptcy practice group, focusing his practice on bankruptcy and commercial litigation matters. He represents a wide range of clients in insolvency and restructuring matters, both in and out of court, and advises companies across multiple industries, including automotive and manufacturing. Derek previously served as Global President and Chair of the Turnaround Management Association and is an experienced mediator for commercial disputes involving distressed entities.
