Overview

Allen Howell is Burr & Forman’s Director of Legal Talent and Development. In this role Allen works with firm leadership to develop and oversee strategic programs for professional development, career advancement, retention, and recruitment of attorneys. This includes attorney training and development, client service initiatives, and leadership coaching. He has received certifications for leadership coaching from Vanderbilt’s Owen School of Business and the National Association of Legal Professionals (NALP). He is certified in the Myers-Briggs assessment.

Allen previously served as Assistant Dean of Professional Development and Public Interest at Cumberland Law School where he oversaw the Career Development Office and professional development programming. At Cumberland, Allen designed and taught a first-year professionalism course to help students successfully transition into law practice. Allen’s past law practice focused on estate planning and local government. He continues to be an active member of the Alabama Bar. He is a graduate of the Birmingham Bar’s Leadership Forum, and the Alabama Bar’s Leadership Forum Class 13. Allen’s involvement with the Alabama State Bar has included the development of mentorship programs for new lawyers, the study of access to justice in rural communities, expanding pro bono services, and periodic evaluations of Alabama’s legal job market. He is an active speaker at bar organizations and conferences.

He earned his undergraduate degree at University of Alabama at Birmingham, his J.D. at Faulkner University, and his Master of Education at Samford University.
