Overview
Charles is an Associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group and a member of its Cybersecurity and Data Privacy team. Charles routinely assists clients of all sizes with their intellectual property needs, with a particular focus on trademarks and copyrights. Charles helps clients establish, protect, and enforce their intellectual property rights, including through counseling clients on filing strategies, prosecuting trademark and copyright applications, and conducting enforcement actions against third-party infringement.
Charles also frequently assists clients with reviewing, preparing, and negotiating intellectual-property-related agreements such as assignments, licenses, and non-disclosure agreements.
On the data privacy side, Charles often works with clients to review, revise, and prepare website privacy policies and similar documents.
In addition, Charles has litigation experience with matters such as unfair trade practices, false advertising, and copyright, trademark, and patent infringement. Charles also has experience with proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, including Opposition and Cancellation proceedings.
Charles earned his Juris Doctor from William & Mary Law School. During law school, he served as the Senior Articles Editor of the William & Mary Environmental Law and Policy Review and was a member of the Student Intellectual Property Society. Charles also received the CALI Excellence for the Future Award in Legal Research & Writing II.
Prior to law school, Charles received his Certificate in Paralegal Studies from the University of Richmond and his bachelor’s degree in History and English from the University of Arkansas.
