Overview

Derrick Souza is an associate in the firm’s Intellectual Property practice group. As a licensed practitioner and former examiner for the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, he supports inventors through the patent application process while ensuring clarity and compliance with USPTO requirements.

While earning his J.D. at the University of New Hampshire Franklin Pierce School of Law, Derrick gained experience in patent research, including drafting, prior art searching, and market analysis as a legal intern and resident.

In addition to his law education, Derrick earned his B.S. in Electrical Engineering at Clemson University. His legal and technical background enables him to apply patent law in fields such as telecommunications, signal processing, and cryptography.
