Overview

Kate Merkel is a registered patent agent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office who leverages her passion for innovation in technology to support the firm’s intellectual property group. She assists clients with the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, related to mechanical and electrical engineering, hand tools, construction machinery, forestry and lawn care tools, and robotics.

Kate’s main role since joining the firm has been creating detailed technical analyses of, and executing effective responses to office actions issued by the USPTO.

Prior to joining Burr, she earned her B.S. from St. Bonaventure University, where she conducted undergraduate research on surface–adsorbate interactions in heterogeneous catalysis. She presented her work at national and regional conferences and co-authored a peer-reviewed article in Dalton Transactions (RSC Publishing).
