Overview

Maggie Birks is a technical specialist in the firm's Charlotte office, supporting the Intellectual Property practice group. Drawing on a background in chemistry and physics, she assists attorneys with patent prosecution matters across a wide range of technologies, with her most recent work focused on the lawn care and outdoor power equipment, as well as handheld devices, their wireless communication, and interactions with aerosolizing devices and their components.

Prior to joining Burr, she earned her B.S. in Chemistry, cum laude, and B.S. in Physics from the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). During her time at UAB, she conducted research in Metal Organic Framework synthesis, ultra-fast reaction dynamics, and plasma catalysis, and presented her work at both international and regional conferences. Maggie also worked for NASA, developing mitigation strategies for invasive species using satellite imagery technology.
