David Timm Urges DLA to Update Source Approval Process in National Defense Op-Ed

Articles / Publications

In his op-ed for National Defense Magazine, D.C. Partner David Timm argues that the Defense Logistics Agency’s ("DLA") current source approval process is undermining its goal of increasing competition in military contracts.

David says the current process restricts competition because of outdated protocols and ambiguous guidance that the agency is slow to update. He also says the process creates delays and burdens for potential bidders, requiring a high level of investment with no certainty of winning.

As a result of this lack of competition, David points out that procurements are more expensive and product engineering is less innovative.

David calls on the DLA to heed the statute recently passed by Congress, which requires the agency to update its source approval process and demonstrate its commitment to increasing competition in defense contracting.
