As an honoree of the Birmingham Business Journal’s 2022 Best of the Bar Awards, Angie Cameron Smith was featured in a Q&A in the publication’s April 15, 2022, special section.

“Our Best of the Bar Awards are designed to highlight star performers from across the Magic City’s legal scene,” the publication said. “This year’s honorees represent a range of practice groups and help shape their firms, the Birmingham economy and, in many cases, businesses around the nation.”

Smith, who is a litigator and devotes her practice to advising and defending health care providers, said that Covid-19 vaccine mandates and staffing shortages continue to be hot topics within her practice area. She further discussed the impact the pandemic has had on her practice. “My regulatory practice has seen dramatic growth as health care providers struggle to keep current with regulatory changes related to Covid,” she said. And although she hasn’t seen new types of cases arising out of Covid, she anticipates there will be more Covid-related cases in light of the two-year mark from the start of the pandemic.

Beyond the immediate issues in her practice, Smith also reflected on highlights from her career, including her first jury trial, her pre-law career working in politics and a client victory after seven-years of litigation where the Alabama Supreme Court affirmed summary judgment on behalf of her client.
