Burr & Forman's Forrest Latta Reappointed To Troy University Board Of Trustees

Firm News

TROY - Gov. Robert Bentley has reappointed Mobile attorney Forrest Latta to a 12-year term on the Troy University Board of Trustees.

Latta's reappointment must be confirmed by the Alabama Senate, but the governor's reappointment is effective Oct. 25. Latta was first appointed to the Board in 2005.

"Forrest Latta is an outstanding alumnus and one of the most student-centered trustees we have ever had. His devotion to student welfare and academic excellence are invaluable as the Board sets the policies for our University," said Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., Chancellor.

Latta is a 1980 summa cum laude graduate of TROY and he completed his Doctor of Jurisprudence at Samford University's Cumberland School of Law in 1983. He currently chairs the Appellate Practice Section and is a partner in the Burr Forman law firm based in Mobile.

"It is an honor to continue serving my alma mater as a member of the Board of Trustees," Latta said. "We have a Board that works well together, and I am grateful to Gov. Bentley for giving me the opportunity to continue this appointment."

For more than 20 years, Latta has served by appointment on the Alabama Supreme Court's Standing Committee for Appellate Rules. In addition to his service on the University's Board of Trustees, Latta serves on the Board of Directors of the Nature Conservancy, the Board of Advisors of Cumberland School of Law, the Baptist Foundation of Alabama's Board of Trustees, and the Board of Directors of the American Camellia Society. He is also a volunteer lawyer in the Mobile Bar Association's pro bono program and the American Bar Association's Death Penalty Representation Project.

In 2014, "Best Lawyers" named him Lawyer of the Year, Appellate Practice, and he is a "Best Lawyer in America, Appellate Practice," by "Insurance Law." In 2001, he was awarded the Duffield Smith Award for Best Defense Publication by the Defense Research Institute
