Tom Scroggins Quoted in SHRM on Potentially Retaining Employees Post-Resignation

Tom Scroggins was quoted in an article published by the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) on November 9, 2023, discussing challenges and risks for employers considering whether to allow – or even encourage – an employee to remain with the company after they have submitted a resignation but are reconsidering.

In many cases, the employer may be the impetus for an employee to reconsider their resignation when the company doesn’t want the employee to leave. Scroggins suggested that, if that’s the case, employers should not immediately accept the resignation or publicly communicate about it. Instead, speak with the employee to find out what’s motivating the intent to resign and see if the relationship can be salvaged through some reasonable adjustments. If so, Scroggins suggested making those adjustments and moving on.
