Overview
Dr. Ahmed-Zayn (“Zayn”) Mohamed is an IP and life sciences lawyer whose passion is medical innovation. Dr. Mohamed brings experience in protecting and managing intellectual property portfolios, licensing and business transactions, and state and federal litigation. He is familiar with prosecution and proceedings before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, having regularly assisted physicians and other inventors with applying for patents in the U.S. and internationally. And with experience in patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret litigation, he has helped clients after issues arise, and in navigating how to avoid or prevent a problem before it happens.
As a life sciences attorney, he has helped advise businesses on regulatory matters, including before state entities such as obtaining pharmaceutical board licensure for compounding, as well as federal agencies such as the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) spanning the gamut of medical devices and drugs and biological products. As a litigator, Dr. Mohamed also has experience in products liability with a focus on medical devices such as implantable prostheses, medical malpractice claims, and other medical issues in litigation such as debunking false allegations and theories.
In addition to being a life sciences and patent attorney, Dr. Mohamed is also a resident interventional radiologist, offering invaluable real-time perspective as a licensed physician currently immersed in and familiar with the field’s needs and intricacies. Dr. Mohamed began his medical-legal career as the youngest graduate in University of South Florida (USF) history, first-ever M.D./J.D. dual-degree candidate at the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine and Stetson University College of Law, and valedictorian of his law school class. He was invited on account of his top Florida bar exam score to speak on behalf of new attorneys at the Florida Second District Court of Appeal swearing-in ceremony, completed post-graduate year one residency training in general surgery at Stamford Hospital/Columbia University with distinction, and is a member of the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society.
A lifelong scholar, Dr. Mohamed continues to mentor medical students and law students, as he volunteers at medical clinics and helps coach his alma mater’s Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot team. Dr. Mohamed values the opportunity to give back to his community and was selected to serve as a member of the USF Foundation Board of Directors, Graduate Medical Education Patient Safety Council, and Robert Good Honor Society Selection Committee. He previously worked in the patent offices of USF and the Moffitt Cancer Center, helped teach patent law and copyright law at Stetson, and has been repeatedly invited to write articles for the World Trademark Review and comment on new developments in the law. Outside the office, Dr. Mohamed enjoys music, international travel and languages, and water and the outdoors. He loves spending time with his mother and inspiration Dr. Ahmed, his brothers, and his fiancée Minnah.
