Overview
Shunta serves as counsel in the firm’s Real Estate practice group. Shunta’s extensive commercial real estate experience includes representing commercial real estate developers and owners in a variety of transactions, including the acquisition, development, rezoning, financing, disposition, and leasing of commercial real estate for hotel, office, retail, recreational, and cultural center uses. Shunta’s experience involves closing complex transactions for the financing and development of “live-work-play” projects, a professional sports venue, and a museum that was the subject of a corporate charitable gift of land. Shunta also has experience representing commercial lenders originating commercial real estate loans for a variety of commercial uses, including, most recently, for solar renewable energy projects and affordable housing developments that were financed with the aid of federal guarantees and investment tax credits.
Shunta brings additional experience to her commercial real estate practice from her prior time as a solo practitioner in the area of wills, trusts, and estates. As a prior solo practitioner, Shunta counseled families and institutional fiduciaries on a variety of trust and estate matters involving both residential and commercial real estate. Such matters included preparing estate plans, guiding families through probate, liquidating commercial real estate through the estate administration process, resolving fiduciary-broker disputes on commercial listing agreements, and litigating residential eviction matters for commercial executors. Shunta's work also included guiding trustees and executors toward the settlement of intra-familial disputes out of court, whether it involved estate settlements or non-judicial trust modifications where real estate was involved.
Shunta earned her J.D. from The University of Alabama School of Law, where she served on the Alabama Law Review. Shunta earned her B.S. in Commerce and Business Administration, having majored in Accounting at The University of Alabama.
Shunta enjoys reading and spending time with her family.
